The Egerton name appears frequently through the census years. By 1911 there were four households three of whom descend from Samuel and Ann (Burgess) who were near Dicken Bridge (there used to be a house here on Burleyhurst Lane near what is now Benkeyhurst Farm). Samuel was born in Over.
A son James, born in 1832 married Margaret Bayley in 1857 and switched from his occupation as a Haycutter to become a Grocer in Newton Hall Lane. His son James born in 1858 married Mary Ann Hickson in 1883 and was also a Grocer in a separate household in Newton Hall Lane.
Another of Samuel and Ann's sons, Thomas, born in 1839 eventually married Harriet and had one daughter Elizabeth born in 1888. Elizabeth, by now working at the Rajar Works was living with her widowed mother in Wood Lane in 1911.
The fourth Egerton household was at Wood End, now . Samuel (born in Ardwick) and his family arrived in Breach House Lane by 1871 and moved to Wood End before 1891. Eliza died and Samuel remarried Hannah who was born in London. Their family had all died or moved away by 1911.
